A must read for any parent whose teenager wants to be a musician.
Insights into the secret lives of working musicians.
About the Book
“Life’s a Good Gig,” takes us on an international romp from the ultimate groove to the infamous gig from hell with a band of brothers like no others, some cool cats, some downright deadbeats. It’s Jimmy Buffet gone Bill Bryson.
Musician/adventurer John Cain, like chef Anthony Bourdain, samples each musical genre like a savory stew, and shares the creative process from the ridiculous to the sublime—from the dubious singing dog to X-rated song lyrics to an unimaginable code of professional ethics.
Cain explores the mysteries of music and life in this well-crafted memoir of his musical sojourn. Jump on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride!

I will be playing straight ahead jazz and bossa nova accompanied by fantastic musicians Marly Waak on drums and Evona Wascinski on bass. There will be other guest jazz musicians stopping in to play a few tunes with us. The band plays upstairs in a loft with a cool, casual, jazzy/bohemian atmosphere.
The food is great-moderately priced! Beer and wine.
I hope you can come in and check it out, it’s a really fun, cool place!

Great Drummers!
-
April 13, 2006
A note from Cain:
All I can say is Wow! I'm a lucky guy to know such talented musicians. Two special musicians have been helping make the magic happen at the Bahia lately. Dave Dhillon who is a fantastic, artful bongo player (and maestro of middle eastern music and drumming, by the way) has been sitting in with me and sharing his talent.
Also the tasteful and soulful conga/percussionist Enrique Jimenez has been sharing his music, soul and rhythm with me on Weds. and Fridays. What a great gift they give me. Muchas gracias hermanos!
Award Winning Song Writers
-
March 31, 2006
A song by Cain co-writen with talented singer, actress, writer Candy Silva Cortes won third place in the Americans For Energy Independence songwriting contest! The contest was to write a song about enegy independence for America.
Silva and Cain compose together frequently for an organization out of New York for hospitilized children called "Songs of Love." The program sends them the name and some facts about a hospitilized child. They take that information then write and record a unique customized special song for that child. Gringos Del Norte at Airport
-
May 5, 2005
Every Cinco de Mayo Cain plays accordion in the group "Los Gringos Del Norte" performing at San Diego's Lindberg field airport welcoming guests to the city. This year was no exception.
A visitor from New York asked the group why they make such a big deal about Cinco De Mayo. Cain explained that this was the day in Mexican history when the greatly out numbered Mexican army defeated the French. To which the New Yorker answered, "So, what. Who hasn't?"
